Fandom Stars Wiki

Hey all,

First, I'm excited to say you’re going to be seeing a lot more of these posts in the coming weeks. As we review 2023 and heading into 2024, your Community staff is focusing on how we can better and more effectively serve information to you. We'll share a bit more in coming weeks, but what you need to know today is: We're committed to better, broader communication of product changes to the entire community. And we're also committed to using this Stars group to drive early, direct, and actionable feedback into various parts of the product process.

To that end, today I'm writing to talk to you about a forthcoming experiment. An experiment is not a full-fledged feature. It is an idea we are testing on the network, measuring the results, and determining next steps. Our goal is to be transparent with you about what we are testing and gather your feedback that may inform future variant/feature design. But keep in mind, this is just an experiment - it may not be fully polished, have handling for edge cases, and we may well decide after looking at the results to abandon the concept altogether.

Once an experiment concludes, we'll share some of our findings with you (and ultimately, in a digest form, with the community). While an experiment is active, we'll try to pin it in the appropriate Discord channels too.

Module design details

Test Closes: One Week

Will Be Tested On: 12% of users (6% control, 3% Variant 1, 3% Variant 2)

Hypothesis: Readers will be more likely to read more wiki content if presented with pictures of the pages referenced in a section of a wiki article, highlighting the directly relevant content.

Other Notes: Previous experiments where we did a page preview on hover over the link in the paragraph itself actually decreased engagement

Variants: Test will run with two carousel presentations. One will be after the first H2 section that has at least 3 links on mobile and 5 on desktop excluding self-linking, the main wiki page, and outside links. The second variant will be after the first H3 with the same conditions as the first variant.
